MEDIATOR

Derek Minus is an experienced Family Law dispute resolution practitioner, especially for the difficult cases. He employs a style of “transformative” or “therapeutic” mediation which is successful in resolving matters even where there is domestic violence.

From 1993 to 1999, he was a member of the Relationships Australia family dispute resolution panel, exclusively mediating and resolving family relationship  disputes. He has completed the Relationships Australia Vocational Diploma in Family Dispute Resolution.

As an NMAS accredited mediators his Registered Mediator Appointing Body (RMAB) is the Australian Institute of Family Law Arbitrators and Mediators (AIFLAM).

FAMILY DISPUTE RESOLUTION PRACTITIONER 

In 2007 with the advent of the Federal Attorney General’s Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner scheme, he was registered as a FDRP with the federal government. He is accredited as an FDRP and able to issue certificates in relation to parenting orders from the Family Court. He was selected by the New South Wales Bar Association to participate in the Family Court and Federal Magistrate’s Courts family law settlement service, which aims to provide qualified mediators to assist the court with resolving its backlog of family property disputes.

ARBITRATOR

As well as being a mediator facilitating conflict solutions he is also a Chartered arbitrator determining disputes according to law. He conducts family law property arbitrations as provided for under the  Family Law Amendment (Arbitration and Other Measures) Rules 2015. These Rules, which took effect from 1 April 2016 provide arbitrators appointed by the parties with the power to order disclosure and subpoenas that assist with the conduct of the arbitration process.
