Derek Minus is an experienced Family Law mediator, especially for the difficult cases. He employs a style of “transformative” or “thearapeutic” mediation successfully in resolving matters even where there have been threats of, or actual incidents of violence.
From 1993 to 1999, he was a member of the Relationships Australia family dispute resolution panel, exclusively mediating and resolving family relationship disputes. He has completed the Relationships Australia Vocational Diploma in Family Dispute Resolution.
In 2007 with the advent of the Federal Attorney General’s Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner scheme, he was registered as a FDRP with the federal government. He is currently accredited as an FDRP and able to issue certificates in relation to parenting orders from the Family Court.
As well as being a mediator he is also a Chartered arbitrator and is listed as an arbitrator with AIFLAM, the Australian Institute of Family Law Arbitrators and Mediators.
He was selected by the New South Wales Bar Association to participate in the Family Court and Federal Magistrate’s Courts family law settlement service, which aims to provide qualified mediators to assist the court with resolving its backlog of family property disputes.
